From the doctor Dr. Langer is a nationally and internationally recognized expert in the treatment of diabetes in pregnancy, and has appeared in The Best Doctors in America since 1992. He arrived at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt in 1999, when he became chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Prior to that, he served for ten years as Blumberg professor, director of obstetrics and maternal-fetal medicine, and deputy chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. He has served as principle or coinvestigator on several NIH and pharmaceutical studies, and on multiple occasions has received the Award of Research Excellence from the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine. Dr. Langer has been recognized with the 2005 Etzwiler Professorship, the 2003 Freikel Lecture from the American Diabetes Association, and the 2005 Biovin Visiting Professorship at the Motherisk Program, Hospital for Sick Children, in Toronto. Dr. Langer has contributed extensively to the literature of obstetrics and gynecology through publication in both journals and textbooks, is co-editor of two textbooks on diabetes and pregnancy, and has served on a variety of journal editorial boards in obstetrics and gynecology.
