From the doctorDr. Appel Is a Pediatrician by training, now practicing Adolescent and Young Adult Medicine for the last 11 years. Throughout her years of practice Dr. Appel has looked for ways to include motivational support to promote resilience and self reliance in her work, specifically inspired by her work with psychiatrically impaired children and adolescents in residential treatment. As Medical Director at The Andrus Children’s Center Dr. Appel supervised 3 staff psychiatrists and provided primary care for 75 children with dual diagnosis disorders, PTSD and children in the foster care system. She also is completing a training in Adaptive Behavioral Therapy as a short term intervention for teens, college age and older patients who suffer with anxiety and panic disorders.

Dr. Appel enjoys working with adolescents providing preventive care with emotional and family support and with patients with the following problems:

- Eating Disorders

- Obesity

- Depression

- Anxiety Disorders

- Chronic illness requiring on-going screening and coordination of care

- Young adults in transition to independence with emotional and physical problems

- Life crisis intervention related to family, school, work and emotional problems

- Team collaboration with complex medical and psychiatric problems requiring higher levels of care.

- Post-rehabilitation after drug and alcohol abuse
