From the doctorStephan Danik, MD, MMSc, has been appointed Director of the Electrophysiology Laboratory at Mount Sinai St. Luke's and Mount Sinai Roosevelt. In his new role, he will help bring new treatments for arrhythmias from the laboratory to the bedside, and offer interventional approaches to prevent stroke in patients with atrial fibrillation who seek an alternative to lifelong anticoagulation medication.

Dr. Danik’s clinical and research interests include stroke prevention, sudden cardiac death, cardiac device infections and catheter-based therapies to treat atrial fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia.

Widely published, Dr. Danik also serves as an ad hoc reviewer for many peer-reviewed journals, including Circulation, Heart Rhythm, Pacing and Clinical Electrophysiology, and the American Journal of Cardiology. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine’s Cardiovascular Disease and Cardiac Electrophysiology sections. Prior to his position at Mount Sinai St. Luke's Roosevelt, he was on the faculty at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital.

Dr. Danik holds a medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. He completed an internship and residency at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center, as well as clinical fellowships in cardiovascular disease at Mount Sinai Hospital and in cardiac electrophysiology at Massachusetts General Hospital. He also did a research fellowship in cardiovascular disease at New York University School of Medicine.
