From the doctorThe evolution of chronic diseases in our society is a daunting problem for our health care system. As our population ages we are seeing the financial impact of this problem and the World Health Organization has stated the "first" world is truly unprepared for this reality. Simultaneously patients and families are burdened with the care and management of these compelling realities. Pulmonary Rehabilitation, available at Mount Sinai Beth Israel since 1990, is a disease management program for individuals with chronic lung disease. The goal of our program is to place the patient back in charge of their illness so that they may resume an independent life style and minimize, as best possible, the disability associated with chronic lung disease.
